HOTB 083: In the beginning, there was Monsanto

In this episode I attempt to explain the complicated mess that is Monsanto’s grip on our food supply.

There are a few recent studies in journals about roundup ready corn that I mentioned. Here they are:

  1. Carcinogenicity of tetrachlorvinphos, parathion, malathion, diazinon, and glyphosate,” The Lancet Oncology, March 20, 2015
  2. Dangerous Pesticides Showing Up More and More In Our Urine and Breast Milk,” Alternet, June 4, 2014
  3. EPA: Technical Factsheet on Glyphosate
  4. Glyphosate, pathways to modern diseases II: Celiac sprue and gluten intolerance,” Interdisciplinary Toxicology, November 2013.

HOTB 080: Food monotony 101

Is it possible that one of the countless problems with fast food is that it’s the same ol’ gray meat and that our brains are bored with it? And if so, could that be a partial explanation as to why we need more and more of it to be satisfied? That’s food for thought in this week’s episode.

Here is the link to the NPR radio program with Alice Waters, that I mentioned in the podcast:

Does making your own recipe from scratch seem like a magic trick that you can’t pull off?

In this episode, I discuss a step-by-step technique to find a healthy way to cook your favorite meals right at home. All it takes is the right ingredients and a pinch of confidence.

As I mentioned in the podcast, the brand of hot sauce I enjoy is the bufalo brand of Salsa Chilpotle, which can be ordered online at mexgrocer.com.

HOTB 073: How to get your 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in the winter

In this episode, I attempt to “pump you up!” with suggestions on how you can include fruits and vegetables into your daily diet during the winter months.

On the recipes tab, I have many recipes, such as butternut squash soup, that utilize cold weather produce.
